WASTES

LABORATORY
The Analitica laboratory carries out environmental, mineralogical, and chemical analyses of inorganic solid waste, inert materials, ashes, industrial production residues and materials intended for landfill disposal. Waste analysis can be performed through characterization of crystalline phases by X-ray diffraction (XRD), chemical analysis by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for the determination of chemical elements, metals, sulfides, oxides, etc. or through thermal characterization by means of static and dynamic heating and evaluation of volatile components (H2O, CO2, organic matter) using thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis.

Mineralogical, chemical, and particle-size characterization of excavated soils and rocks is carried out in accordance with italian Ministerial Decree DM 161/2012, in order to assess their potential use as by-products or recovery materials. The presence/absence of asbestos in soils, rocks, and demolition waste is verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical microscopy with polarized light (PLOM).
Analytical and research activities are also conducted on contaminated soils and hazardous/toxic waste, in order to support remediation projects for areas contaminated by industrial materials, asbestos and production residues.
Elenco analisi

Identification of the phases present in waste and industrial production residues through PLOM, SEM and XRD analyses, and characterization of heavy metals and their oxidation states.

Mineralogical and chemical characterization, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and chemical microanalysis (EDS), of inert materials, special waste, industrial production residues and demolition waste.

Detection of asbestos in soils, rocks, greenstones and waste through PLOM, XRD or SEM analysis.

Elemental analysis by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) of soils, sediments and waste.

Particle size analysis by sieving (aggregates > 63 micrometers) and/or laser diffraction (particle size distribution and cumulative curve, aggregates < 2 mm), in accordance with ISO 13320-1/1999.

Determination of morphological parameters such as Feret diameter and equivalent particle diameter using optical or electron microscopy and dedicated image analysis software (ISO 13322-1/2014).
